The “Filonzana” at one time only went out on Tuesday, the last day of Carnival, holding a spinning wheel from which hung woolen threads and wearing face a mask similar to that of “Merdules”. Her clothing is that of an old widow: a skirt and black shawl, and a pillow strapped to her back to create the appearance of a hunchback.
This figure contains is rich in symbolism and there are many folk beliefs about weavers and spinners. The “Filonzana”, in fact, walks through the crowd and sometimes threatens to cut the thread of life as a sign of bad luck.
